AEBAS for government offices

The Government of India is promoting the Digital India program to make India digitally empowered in the field of technology. The ‘Digital India’ Programme includes implementation of a common Biometric Attendance System (BAS) along with Aadhaar authentication. To keep attendance records of Government employees centrally, attendance.gov.in has been implemented to monitor attendance at a commonplace.
One of the major problems in developing countries is the absenteeism/irregularities of government officials. As the presence of officials on time directly impacts productivity and efficiency which cannot be monitored with manual attendance. Central Government of India has mandated all the government organizations to adhere to Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS). The Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System has been designed to improve the productivity and punctuality of government employees. The system authenticates employee’s attendance using Aadhaar number generated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It is a cloud-based Biometric Attendance System (BAS) that monitors the attendance of employees in real-time.

The traditional method of marking attendance involves manual registers which result in time theft and involves the high possibility of human errors. Paper-based attendance marking consumes more time. Although the RFID card-based attendance system is more secure than manual attendance, it involves the high chance of misusing the cards.

It is of no wonder that the irregularity of Government officials results in a delay in work. To overcome the challenges of the manual attendance process, the Government of India has decided to implement a cloud-based biometric attendance system based on Aadhaar authentication. The attendance process involves the user’s unique Aadhaar number and fingerprint as a biometric credential for authentication.

Let’s have a look at some of the scenarios where the AEBAS device plays a vital role in the attendance application.

Education:
It is truly said that teachers are responsible to empower student’s knowledge. One of the issues confronting numerous educational institutes is the irregularity of staff (teachers). It becomes important to have a track of the teacher’s presence who is irregular at work. Aadhaar enabled biometric attendance system plays a vital role to minimize absenteeism or irregularity of staff as it helps track in-time and out-time accurately.

Healthcare:
One of the fastest-growing government sectors is Healthcare. Taking care of patients must be a priority for every healthcare sector. Absenteeism and irregularities of doctors and healthcare staff directly hinder in providing quality care to patients. These results in dissatisfaction over the performance and quality of health services. Implementing a biometric attendance system (BAS) addresses issues of tardiness and irregularity at work and ensures around the clock operations.

Transportation:

The government transportation industry comprises of Railways, Airports and State Bus. It is widely accepted that the transportation sector is quite dependent on timely service. To ensure timely deliveries and services to the public. So, implementing the time-attendance system is very essential to track absences and irregularities of employees.

Apart from above mentioned, Government sectors including Manufacturing, BFSI, Law and Order, Defence, Power Utilities, Oil & Refinery, and more requires the implementation of Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) to improve efficiency and productivity.

There are two types of attendance device for authentication of employees – Tablet-based, and Embedded Linux based biometric device. When talking about tablet-based authentication mode, it is considered that the lifetime of a tablet-based device is not that good when compared with the biometric devices. Biometric devices are more appropriate as these terminals are specifically built for attendance purpose (for a single application), with a longer life span when compared with an android based tablet device.

To address challenges of Government sectors, Matrix has specifically designed its cutting-edge Fingerprint and RFID Card based Aadhaar Enabled Time-Attendance Terminal – COSEC VEGA FAXQ. Matrix expands its Time-Attendance portfolio to meet the functional requirements for the employee time tracking system of Government organizations. COSEC VEGA FAXQ is Specifically Designed for Attendance Management of Government Employees, on a Linux Platform for Long Term Consistent Performance, providing immune to viruses and malware. This device offers unique advantages in terms of connectivity, technology, usage environment and ease of use. This device supports fingerprint as well as Mifare smart card as a credential.

Hence, AEBAS monitors the attendance of Government Officials on a real-time basis. It provides multiple access points for government employees to mark attendance from any location/office. The attendance reports get reflected on the centralized attendance portal https://attendance.gov.in/
